Florence - the Baptistery
|
![]() |
| At one time Florence´s cathedral, the Roman Baptistery is probably the oldest building in the city. It is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of the city, and the green and white marble facade is embellished with three magnificent gilded bronze doors. The south doors are by Pisano, the other two sets by Ghiberti. His east doors (opposite the cathedral) are known as the 'gates of paradise'. |
