Home to the most impressive collection of Renaissance
sculpture in Italy, the Museo Nazionale del Bargello is as ubiquitous
with a visit to Florence as is a tour of the Uffizi.
The collection was begun in 1859 and has been enriched by the addition
of pieces originally found in the Uffizi, by private contributions and
by state acquisitions. Opening hours are not as generous as they should
be and it is not uncommon to find sections, indeed entire floors, closed.
Nonetheless, for a breathtaking impression of the genius that was Renaissance
Florence, do try and visit. Click
here to see a few images from the collections. |
