Villa Rosa is a fully-restored, three-hundred year old farmhouse run by an Australian and her Italian husband. The property overlooks farmland towards the village of Solomeo and to Perugia and Assisi in the distance.
The accommodation comprises two holiday apartments and one cottage, beautifully decorated, combining traditional country charm with modern Italian style. The farmhouse is a short walk from the village of Montemelino (tiny with an excellent, reasonably-priced restaurant); about 15 kilometers from Perugia; and only five kilometres from the superstrada that connects Florence and Rome (we're about halfway between those cities.)
[ View on Google Map | map of region ]The superstrada can neither be seen nor heard from the house, but its vicinity makes Villa Rosa a great base for seeing Umbria and Tuscany. There isn't really any public transport, however, so a stay here only really works if you have wheels.
Your hosts - Megan and Lino - will be happy to help you with every aspect of your stay. Whatever your interests - whether you prefer scouting out bargains in the nearby cashmere factory outlet stores or searching for truffles, wild asparagus and mushrooms in the neighbouring woods - they will point you in the right direction. They can also arrange cookery classes and dinners prepared by the excellent chef Luca Pisauri from "Osteria il Gufo" in Perugia.
Guests will particularly enjoy a 6X12 metre salt water pool.
There are wonderful walks in the area as the property backs onto a forest. Walk to the top of the hill and you will be rewarded with a breathtaking 360° view of the area — from Lake Trasimeno around to Perugia and Assisi in the distance.
