Tramonto is in Costabella, on the north of Calabria's Capo Vaticano promontory. Pushing into the Mediterranean just to the north of Sicily, Capo Vaticano faces the volcanic isle of Stromboli and its fellow Aeolian Islands. Capo Vaticano has some of the best beaches in Calabria - Groticelle and Tonicello are long strands of beautifully clean sand facing onto azure sea.

Calabria itself forms the toe of Italy,
at its tip very close to Sicily. One for the sunlovers,
this heart of the Mezzogiorno enjoys summers of up to 35°C, with pleasantly
warm springs and autumns, and mild winters. This is a picturesque coastline
where dramatic mountains dive straight down to the Mediterranean and Ionian
Seas, the slopes peppered with pine and oak woods, home to wild boar and wolves.
Inland, the fertile valleys are covered with golden wheatfields,
olive groves, aubergines, vineyards, pimentos and chilli peppers, all going
into the pot of Calabria's spicy cuisine - unusual for Italy. The Ionian and
Tyrrhenian coastlines are the big draw of course, but Calabria
also has skiing at Camigliatello, and in the spring the Aspromonte National
Park has a crop of wild orchids.
