Holiday rentals in Italy - Campania - In the medieval village of Valva, surrounded by the green hills and mountains of the province of Salerno. With apartments and a double room, it’s a superb base for a vacation on Italy’s Campania coast.
This is an old, though totally restructured building overlooking a large square in the heart of the old centre of the village. The descendants of the original owners offer the guests two spacious panoramic apartments overlooking the village and the beautiful surrounding mountains.
The apartments are provided with linen and kitchenware and can accommodate five guests. They consist of two bedrooms, a large hall, a dinette kitchen and a bathroom with shower. One of them also has a quiet panoramic terrace where guests can enjoy the typical sounds, scents and colours of this place which seems isolated from the rest of the world.
Holidays spent in these apartments in Campania have a homely atmosphere deriving down to the family’s traditional hospitality. You can buy an exquisite extra virgin olive oil, produced here in the village of Valva since 1600.

Valva itself is a mediaeval hamlet of some 2000 inhabitants. It lies in the High Sele Valley on a rocky outcrop dominated by the enchanting Villa of the Marquises d’Ayala-Valva, and has a wonderful view on the valley. ‘Over seventeen hectares wide, Villa d’Ayala of Valva ... is considered, by botanists, to be one of the most beautiful and flourishing in Italy’, wrote the magazine Bell’Italia in 1995.
In summer, in the charming Amphitheatre of Villa d’Ayala, theatrical shows and concerts are performed by the most prestigious and famed international artists. Other attractions are The Tarantella Festival at Valva and The Truffle Festival, held in the neighbouring village of Colliano each October.
This is an excellent starting point for trips to the nearby natural parks, to the hot springs of Contursi and to the surrounding mountains. Trips with jeeps and a local guide are available, and you can easily reach Paestum, Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Pompeii and Naples in less than an hour thanks to the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway.
