Gavillaccio is handily placed on the edge of Chianti, with easy access to Florence, Siena/Sienna and Arezzo. The town of Figline Valdarno with its mediæval walls and pretty historical centre is only 7km away. Here you will find banks, pharmacies, restaurants and shops. There is a nearby motorway access point and a railway station (trains to Florence every half hour.)

Wine buffs will be glad to explore the wineries and vineyards of Chianti, and enjoy some of the local produce in some of the excellent restaurants and trattorias. There is plenty too for historical buffs and nature lovers — this is a country of rolling woodland interspersed with mediaeval villages and Roman remains.

Nearby Florence and Siena/Sienna should not be missed — quite different cities in spite of their rich, well-preserved Renaissance heritage of architecture and arts. Siena is slightly more sedate, but both have a wealth of things to see and do.
