The first mention of the structure is in documents dating back to the early XI century, when the territory upon which it is built belonged to the Bishop of Volterra, feudatory of the Holy Roman Empire. Initially it was a prosperous abbey when, at the end of the 1400's Cardinal Giuliano Della Rovere, later to become Pope Giulio II, added a house for himself and subsequent bishops, which remained in possession of the church for over 400 years. All rooms are equipped with a satellite TV, a safe, a frigobar, a telephone, air conditioning, hydro-massage baths and a telephone line for internet access, and the hotel offers all the luxuries and more that you would expect from a quality four-star hotel. The restaurant (click here for some images), with its historic rooms, offers traditional Tuscan cuisine accompanied by a broad selection of choice wines. Please click here to view a few more photographs and a map of our location (we're 35 kilometres from Florence, 20 from Siena and 80 from Pisa), and please use the link below to send us a message - we would be delighted to answer all of your questions. Thank you. |
