The ancient Guinigi estate of Matraia was founded in the sixteenth century, and although close to Lucca, the Matraia hills have through the centuries retained an unspoilt rural character. The production of wine and olive oil has always been, and still is, the main activity of the estate, now renamed Fattoria Colle Verde.

Over the years we have dedicated tremendous time and energy to ensuring that Colle Verde remains a place that provides the high level of hospitality expected of our guests while respecting the rich agricultural traditions and maintaining the distinctive cultural heritage and unique quality of life of this special region of Italy.
The seventeenth century farmhouse and farm buildings have been recently
renovated to provide four properties for a comfortable stay in a rural
setting. Each
apartment is self contained with independent facilities. There is also a
small 'taverna' where, on request, typical Tuscan dishes can be sampled.
Today the
Fattoria not only produces some of Italy's finest wines and extra-virgin
olive oils, but also participates in the country's popular agriturismo
program and
offers a variety of accommodations to those who enjoy the farm holiday experience.
