La Vignola offers a pleasant and enjoyable environment where one may alternately relax in the spacious garden or around the swimming pool (available from mid-May until mid-September). The area is especially popular with hillwalkers and there are many marked trails. Within a radius of four kilometres there are facilities for horseriding and tennis whilst mountain-bikers are truly spoilt.
The ancient medieval town of Barga, is situated in the valley of the river Serchio on the edge of the Garfagnana. We can still see today the original historical centre of the old town: the medieval structure with its houses gathered around the magnificent, cathedral dating back from before the year 1000, and the little township protected by its surrounding walls. The entire valley is situated between the soft green Apennines and rockier but equally interesting Apuan chain, where you can find the most famous marble quarries in the world.
In the area around Barga there are many interesting places to visit: there is the natural canyon "Orrido di Botri" which is very near Bagni di Lucca, an ancient spa town.
The Wind Cave in the Apuane range is of great scientific interest; there is also the Nature Park of the Orecchiella which extends for more than 5000 hectares and offers the visitor a great variety of flora and fauna.
Its geographical position makes Barga an optimum base for visiting the most important cities of art in Tuscany. The cities of Lucca, Pisa, Florence and Siena are all in fact within easy reach.
Barga hosts important traditional folkloric and musical events, such as Opera Barga and Barga Jazz.
La Vignola is owned by the same local family who run the Hotel Restaurant Alpino in nearby Barga.
