Pisa is very ancient, pre Roman in fact, but after being a Roman settlement it rose to its greatest glory between the 11th and 13th centuries. A major military power, Pisa became very rich too, and the fruits are everywhere. There is the Campo dei Miracoli, the collection of urban architecture that includes the Leaning Tower, the Duomo (cathedral), the Baptistery and the Camposanto.
