Lucca – medieval costume and weaponry
September, 2009, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy.
A tented village just outside the encircling walls of the city, with music, processions, falconry, costumes, and some very loud cannons.
Below a couple of (camera-phone, hence not very good) photographs, including one of a fully functional catapult that took a half dozen people to pull down the counter-balance. Or whatever it’s called. It then slung an iron ball a good distance.
There are numerous ‘medieval events’ throughout the year, most notably during ‘Lucca September’.
