If the flat is a real find, its situation is terrific too. The main entrance is from Piazza Mattei - a lovely little square with a fountain in its centre. The square lies in an historic quarter of Rome - and the most important sights of Rome lie within a few minutes' walk. The Pantheon and the Piazza Navona area are each around five minutes' walk away; the Capitoline Museums and the splendid views from the Capitoline Hill, the Forum and the Colosseum are all around seven minutes' walk.

Walk south from the apartment and you swiftly reach the River Tiber just at the point where a tiny island divides it: this is the Isola Tiberina, the only island on the Tiber. Cross over the bridge and you are into the enchanting old area known as Trastevere (literally 'across the Tiber') with its narrow alleys, artisan shops, and restaurants. To many, this is the real heart of Rome, where the Romans live.
If you don't want to walk the few minutes' further to The Vatican or the main train station, then you'll find plenty of public transport links in a nearby square, the Largo di Torre Argentina.
This holiday flat in Rome really provides the best of both worlds. Though right in the heart of the old city, it's also in a car-free zone - so it's pleasantly quiet, and strolling the streets is a real pleasure.
This is just a taste of the delights that lie just minutes from this lovely apartment. The Eternal City is littered with the relics of over 2000 years of history, which gives it a unique atmosphere. Pagan temples, broken marble and triumphal arches; narrow winding cobbled side streets opening onto magnificent piazzas with Baroque churches, palaces and exquisite fountains; the seemingly endless Vatican Museums and the splendid Basilica of St Peter's ... the list goes on.
