Liguria has long been a holiday favourite with the elite of Europe, a long, narrow strip of beaches and fishing villages which stretches from France to Tuscany. Popular attractions include the Cinque Terre, Genoa and the Ligurian Alps. Excellent fishing and fish-restaurants!
Liguria is a narrow strip of mountains and coastline connecting France to Tuscany, Italy. The region is best known for its beach resorts and belle époque seaside towns, considered to be among the finest in the Mediterranean, but it has much more to offer the enquiring visitor. There are the spectacular, cliff-side villages of the Cinque Terre, the ancient maritime port of Genoa and some splendid walking and mountaineering in the Ligurian Alps.
Portovenere was much loved by Byron, Shelly and Keats, and is where part of The Count of Montecristo (the Tony Curtis one) was filmed.
