The little village of Pognana Lario is 12km north-east of Como. Here you will find a grocery store, a post office and a bar. The pretty villages dotted along the side of the lake can also be reached (on some days) by ferry. The next restaurant is a 10-minute walk away. There is a tennis court, boat hire and swimming pool in the vacation resort of La Cava, also a 10 minute walk/ 500m walk away (only open in summer).
The bus stop for Como is directly in front of the bar at Pognana, with the journey to Como taking about half an hour. A visit to this smart town makes a pleasant contrast to the peace and tranquility of the villa. With elegant architecture, chic shops between the town wall and the promenade, and stylish, wood-panelled cafés and restaurants - not to mention several marvellous museums - Como is a great day out. Como is also a worldwide leader in silk production, and private customers can buy material, scarves or ties direct from the manufacturers here. The town has a railway station providing quick and easy access to Milan.
Villa Luna is also ideally placed for numerous excursions into the beautiful countryside around the feet of the Alps, or to Bellagio - also known as the pearl of the lake because of its beauty.
