Vigneta is near the boundary between the Lunigiana and Garfagnana on the mountain road to Lucca. It has a bar and village shop with, at the 'Campo Sportivo', a tennis court (easily hired at low cost). Additional facilities are to be found in nearby Casola, an old mediaeval village but with a bank, shops, restaurant and a museum for the area's Natural Park. About an hour's drive from the coast, with the sandy beaches of the Versilian Riviera or the rocky foreshore of the Gulf of Poets and the Cinque Terre, Vigneta is right on the edge of the Apuane Parco Naturale.
Nearby at Equi Terme are to be found interesting caves and also open air sulphur baths - another open air pool is available in summer months at nearby Cormezzano. Further afield, Fivizzano has one of the area's many Malaspina castles and, nearer to hand, Codiponte has a lovely little church. Mountain views abound everywhere in this area.
