Taponecco
is a hill village, perched on a sunny shelf in the foothills of the
Appennines. There have been inhabitants here since the Bronze Age and
indeed the whole village is scheduled as a 'Centro Storico' (the Italian
equivalent of listed buildings).
Not only are the buildings hundreds of years old but life in Taponecco
has been caught in something of a time-warp. As you wend your way through
the narrow cobbled borgos, you will come across some houses where the
cows, horses and other animals are still kept in stables under the houses.
In the morning you will hear the sound of the bells as the animals are
taken up to graze in the hill meadows, and again the air is redolent
with the sound of bells in the evening as they are bought back down
to be bedded down for the night.
Nearby Tavernelle (five minutes drive away) has shops and restaurants.
