This large property, also known as Villa Sbarra, is found in the small village of Gabbiana near Bagnone in the heart of the Lunigiana region of northern Tuscany, an area rich with history, ancient castles and traditional folklore. Surrounded by a wide Italian style garden, the villa is a late Liberty style mansion that preserves the delicacy and feelings of the past. Its warm and painted frescoed bedrooms are furnished with original furniture and paintings by assorted Livorno printers.
Casa Sbarra is an old country house of the 18th century, modified at the at the beginning of 20th and, within its old walls, offers itself to guests as if they were its owners. There is a private chapel that has already seen various weddings, both Italian and 'foreign', and the owner would be happy to assist in planning your wedding here.
Breakfast can be enjoyed either in the warm kitchen with fireplace or outside, on the big terrace or in the garden near a gracious old fish pond. In the garden, it's possible to spend time in relaxation after excursions, read a book or play cards, chess, listen to music and other amenities. There is also a big meadow with birches, and an 60m "avenue" with cypresses where guests can park cars.
Casa Sbarra is the ideal place for having a peaceful and relaxing stay and an ideal starting point for excursions and hikes: the choice is yours to make: explore the hills (on foot if you like) and valleys, or drive half an hour to the coast at Lerici and Portovenere - the gateway to the Cinque Terre - or the marble quarries at Carrara. Also half an hour away there are the Appenine lakes and the Passo del Cerreto, and you can drive down the coast to Viareggio, Pisa and Lucca in an hour or so.
