Italy’s oldest Palio (since 1275), it takes place every year on the third Sunday of September, 21 neighbourhoods contending for the sought-after Palio. There is a superb historical parade, with over a thousand costumed locals. Check out the Festival Delle Sagre too: a food and wine fair the week before the Palio. And the Premio Douja d’Or is a contest dedicated to wine: it takes place in same week of the Palio.

Contact your hosts for special prices for groups. After the third overnight stay, you will be offered an excellent bottle of Barbera d'Asti Superiore, from the wine producers' co-operative of Vinchio.
If you are visiting Monferrato, Langhe and Roero during September and October, the B and B Ca d'rot also provides a small, equipped kitchen. During this period Asti and Alba boast beautiful autumn colors and various festas to celebrate the wine and the white truffle.
