On the ridge of the hills between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, in an 18th century park, the Sartori family built a modern, prestigious country house for their family vacations. Now available to families and groups seeking a Lake Maggiore holiday home rentals, these three houses can sleep up to 20.
The lovely backdrop for these three Lake Maggiore holiday home rentals is a huge Park, measuring almost 10,000 square metres, planted in the 18th century and skilfully designed to blend large green spaces, paths, viewpoints, pools, terraces, greenhouses, paths, roads and many more points of interest.
Planted in the 1700s and enriched over the years, the park has delights around every corner. There is The Camellia Walk, which starts at the wrought iron gate on Piazza Marconi. There is the lawn at the entrance, reached by the old copper gate. The Italian garden is reached via three stone steps from the Camelia Walk. And there are the new gardens around the swimming pool.
The living room windows of the Villa overlook the old Park. After the construction of the new Villa in the 1970s it felt as if there was a barrier dividing the new garden, which was quite sparse, with only a few bushes and trees, from the old Park, with its huge trees and variety of shrubs. What took the most work was not adding to the new area, to make it better suited to the existing garden, but thinning out the old garden to make room views and make the most of the most beautiful old trees.
And so the green lawn now winds among specimens of Taxus Bacchata and Buxus sempervirens over 200 years old, in the shade of a rare (in this part of the country) Quercus suber or cork tree. As you wander downhill you come to the big lawn of Cedrus Deodora and the pond. We’ve taken just a few steps into this magnificent park ... you have days or weeks to explore!
Sited in the hills between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta this is a superb spot. The hills crest at the lovely but little-known Alto Vergante plateau and the Mottarone ... dominating Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta from a height of 830 metres.
The nearest town to the west is Borgomanero, only 5km away. Five km further and you are in Gozzano, on the southern shore of the lovely Lake Orta. The historic town of Orta San Giulio is about 20km north of Gattico.
