Piedmont accommodation on Lake Maggiore - These three holiday apartments lie in the grounds of a magnificent villa facing Italy's largest lake.
Set within stylish gardens, Villa Toscanini consists of two connecting apartments and one separate apartment. All face the island on which famous conductor Arturo Toscanini had his summer retreat. The visitor has a view of this little island (the Isola di San Giovanni) and of the snow-capped Alps in the distance. From here it is only a short walk to the world famous botanical gardens at the Villa Taranto on one side, or to the lively centre of Pallanza on the other, with its shops, restaurants and cafes.
The owner's villa is on the estate, some yards from the house. This is a wonderful villa in art nouveau style, surrounded by a lush old garden with tropical flora. The garden was laid out around 1800, and has many rare plants: century-old azaleas the size of trees, palms, lemon and orange trees in large clay pots, and with statues adorning the English lawn; guided tours of this historic park are possible on Sundays on request. Peaceful, quiet, next to a beautiful villa, within fine old gardens, and looking onto the lake ... it's an unrivalled spot.
The guest apartments are located in a three-storey villa from the turn of the 20th century. Each apartment has a separate entrance from the garden. Apartment Quartett is on the ground floor, Apartment Duett on the first floor, and Apartment Trio is over ground and first. The top floor is inhabited throughout the year by long-term tenants. The vacation apartments have recently been redecorated, redesigned and furnished by the owner, an architect. She has done her work magnificently: the furniture has been chosen with impeccable taste, the fabrics are of good quality, the colours clear and fresh.
Near the lake shore there is a small area on a lawn for sun loungers, and stone steps lead into the water. In summer, when the water is lower, there is a small gravel beach. Duett has a pretty patio with a lovely view, Quartett has a seated outdoor area near the entrance of the apartment. Trio, meanwhile, as well as a seated outdoor area in front of the apartment has two balconies from the living room with lake views.
The units can be rented separately if required but Duett and Quartett can also be combined via a connecting door in the basement. All the apartments together have room for up to 10 people. Bear in mind that in the main vacation season wedding celebrations often take place in the neighbouring villa and park. If requested bikes and a wooden rowing boat can be hired for an extra charge; the boat is at a private, hidden harbour. The next Lido (with a pool, children's pool, bar and restaurant) is 1km away. Verbania (2km away) has a railway station from where you can take a swift train ride to Milan.
Apartment Duett sleeps 2 over 50m². It has its entrance on an upper floor, accessed via a small, covered inner courtyard; there is a large sitting room with access to a private patio with lake views and equipped with table and chairs; a double bedroom closed off by curtains; a kitchen with a table for 6 people and a dishwasher; and a bathroom with tub on the ground floor.
Apartment Quartett sleeps 4 over 60m². It is entered from the garden and comprises the following: a twin bedroom; a room with twin L-shaped beds (although the beds are of regular length and would be suitable for adults the room is furnished more suitably for children); a kitchenette with dining area; a bathroom with shower; an outdoor area with table and four chairs near to the apartment. The view from the twin bedroom towards the garden is through an unfinished greenhouse.
Apartment Trio sleeps 2+2 over 50m². Over two levels it has two entrances, one on the ground floor, the other on the first. The first floor has a living room with kitchenette under an arch and a double bed behind curtains; the mezzanine floor has a bathroom with tub; the ground floor has a twin bedroom with exit to the seated outdoor area, this equipped with table and four chairs; the upper living room has two balconies - one of them equipped with a small round table and two chairs. There is a view towards the garden and through treetops to the lake.
All apartments are equipped with TV (regional channels), stove or microwave and 2 sun loungers. There is a small vegetable garden for the guests.

Reservations are weekly, and from Saturday to Saturday only. The
apartments costs in low season EURO €1190, in mid season €1490,
in high season €1550. Bed, bath
and kitchen linen, water, electricity, gas, and additional beds for Trio
are
all included
in the price. An infant's cot with bars is available. There is a security
deposit of €250 per apartment; a small wooden rowing boat is available
at €25 per day; check with your hosts on the cost of bike rental;
heating (if required) is €8 per day per apartment; final cleaning
is €40
per apartment; pets are allowed at €60 per week. If you plan to bring
your dog, please contact the owners for the form 'Declaration Of Accepting
Responsibility For Your Pet'. Please note that groups with more than 3 children
will be liable for a surcharge, payable on the premises. If more than 3
children
under 15 years travel with the group, €200 extra will be charged per
week, on arrival, for the fourth and each further child (babies under 1
year
not included). Two or three units rented together receive a 10 per cent discount.
There is a grocers 200m away, the Villa Taranto and its botanical garden 500m, the ferry 500m, Pallanza 800m, Verbania railway station 2km, Lido (open-air pool) 1000m, Stresa 15km, Arona 35km, Locarno 35km, S Gottardo 90km, S Bernardo 100km, Milan 100km. There are watersports and tennis courts 1km away and a golf course 10km away.
