Villa to rent on Lake Maggiore, Piedmont, Italy - A century-old, 3-storey holiday villa right on the shores of Lake Maggiore. This villa is unique because it is one of the few properties on Maggiore with its own private shore.
Here you have direct access to the lake, only a few steps away from the house, with a narrow path leading down from the terrace to the water. In summer, when the water is lower, there is a small gravel beach. The house is flanked by palms, while jasmine and wisteria wind their way around the bright blue shutters. Please note that the villa is available only for weekly rentals.
The villa is in a beautiful garden of some 4000m². A symphony of colours, tree-high azaleas and camellias line the paths, there are lemon and palm trees, and mature bamboo provides for a tranquil, shaded spot. This rich tropical flora, the limpid blue lake and the mountain vista from the terrace lend enchantment - it would be hard to find a prettier spot. At the beginning of the last century it was the home of Donizetti, the romantic composer of great operas played to this day in Milan, such as Elisir d'Amore and Lucia di Lammermour. A 1925 postcard of the villa shows it as a magnet for the few travellers who were starting to explore the region.
The owner has recently restored the house, carefully maintaining
an unspoiled facade. Great care was taken to preserve the villa's historic
character while creating the perfect holiday home, as can be seen in details
such as its wood and terracotta floors. The rooms are whitewashed, the authentic
furniture freshly polished and nicely positioned. The wrought iron beds are
made in the old style. The bathrooms are nicely decorated and seamlessly fit
into this beautifully realised house. A collection of beautiful paintings
of the lake give a touch of the nostalgia and romance of the past century.
The interior is comfortable and relaxing, all the rooms on the ground floor
have direct access to the garden, and each bedroom has large windows to the
south with a view to the garden and the lake.
The ground floor is accessed from the garden path. This leads in to a dining room with a fireplace, and views of the garden and lake. There is a country-style kitchen with a 4-ring hob, fridge with freezer compartment, double sink, dishwasher, toaster, and a very nice view of the garden. There is a small barbecue in the garden here. The living room has fresco decoration on the ceiling and a sofa suite, as well as a view of the garden. The TV receives regional programmes. There is a second living room with a round coffee table, and a bathroom with shower.
On the first floor is a double room, with two single beds which
can be arranged as a double; there is a wash basin behind a curtain. Two further
double rooms also have curtained-off wash basins, and there are two bathrooms
with showers.
