In spite of its fabulously secluded hilltop position, Tortori is anything but remote. Florence can be reached by car in less than half an hour, and the fast roads to Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra and Pisa are easily accessed too. The nearest village, Montagnana, is 3km away and boasts an excellent trattoria (Il Focolare - closed in August), run by the father of Tortori's manager and just a little further is the delightful trattoria of Podere Torricella. For a wider selection of eating places, Montespertoli is 7km from here. On your way, you will pass Montegufoni Castle, a near-perfect copy of Florence's Palazzo Vecchio and one of the more curious landmarks in Tuscan history. [ local map | map of region ] |
