You can find Casa Pettirosso in the quiet little village
of San Macario in Piano, just 5 km from the centre of Lucca. In just
twenty minutes you can be on the beautiful Viareggio shoreline and
only fifty minutes by car will be sufficient to get to Florence. The
village lies in the bosom of fertile hills famous for their precious
vineyards and olive groves that produce olive oil with a strong and
sharp flavour.
In olden times the village was crossed by the famous Via Francigena, which was followed by pilgrims and merchants all through the Middle Ages; today, as relics of those times, you can see old Pievi (churches), stone bridges and Roman churches. |

Casa Pettirosso (so called because in winter it is
crowded with families of robins/redbreasts) looks upon the old Via Francigena
from an elevated and secluded position, and is immersed in 40,000 square
meters of green land, surrounded by a wide park of tall pine trees and
shady oaks.
Just in front of the house there is an olive grove next to a green lawn that hosts a circular swimming pool (8 metres diameter), with deck chairs and umbrellas. Beyond the wood you can visit the Bigongiari farmyard, where you can buy home made cheese and meat at reasonable prices. |
