Canto di Ele is a small apartment
in the village of Cune, not far from Borgo a Mozzano, in the province
of Lucca. The setting is quite spectacular - a well preserved mediaeval
village in a cradle of chestnut woods at the foot of Monte Bargiglio.
The area is steeped in history, from the narrow, winding lanes of the
village to the ruined watch tower at the summit - part of the Republic
of Lucca's defenses against an ever expanding Florence.
This a tranquil spot, where life
drifts on at the casual pace of the local farmers. Here you can relax
on the terrace with a barbecue and leave the rest of the world to get
on with it. There is little traffic to disturb the peace (those romantic,
tortuous lanes have their uses) and not much bustle in the village -
there's a grocery and a bar but for more extensive facilities you'll
have to go to Borgo a Mozzano (5km). The area is ideal for hillwalkers
and there is a local paragliding club.
