Lucca, in the north of Tuscany, Italy, is a marvellous holiday destination, nicely located for flying visits to the seaside, Florence or the mountains, and brim-full of things to do and see. The old city is amazingly well preserved — a maze of Roman, mediæval and renaissance palaces and churches encircled by the finest city walls in Europe. This is a vibrant, living city of restaurants, bars, shops and theatres, with a packed calendar of festivals, markets and exhibitions.
