Casa Pluto offers comfortable vacation accommodation consisting of a spacious living room, a modern kitchen/dining room and three bedrooms — a double, a twin and a single. There is a small, secluded garden and a terrace to the rear of the house for al fresco meals.
The decor is stylish, with clever use of bright colours in the well-lit rooms. Careful use of traditional features like red floor tiles, exposed brickwork and wooden furniture adds an old-fashioned, welcoming warmth to the modern, comfortable rooms.
Lucca is a wonderful base for a holiday in Tuscany. The city itself (the centre is a couple of kilometres away) is a splendid, walled maze of narrow, largely pedestrianized streets with a liberal scattering of bars, restaurants, boutiques and specialist food shops. There are dozens of churches, museums and galleries, a packed calendar of concerts, pageants and exhibitions, and all of the facilities you would expect in a small city.
There is plenty to do in the area — walking, swimming, mountain biking for the more active; restaurants, artisanal workshops and historical remains for the more laid back. The surrounding hills have a growing reputation for quality red wines so you might want to visit a winery or two. The same hills have long been a getaway for the local nobility, so try to visit at least one of the majestic villas with their formal gardens.
Transport links from Lucca are superb — By bus, rail or motorway you can be at the beaches of Versilia or the 'miracles' of Pisa within half-an-hour, or make day trips to Florence, Chianti, Siena or the alpine parks of the Garfagnana. [Map of Tuscany | IsMap.com area map]
