| We are located in a valley of the Pisani mountains
and the village lies 300 metres away from us. It is an old agricultural
suburb of 5000 people with some eighteenth-century buildings and a mediaeval
church. The Certosa of Calci, a (no longer used) Cartesian monastery,
is famous as one of the most beautiful of its type in the world. It has
splendid plaster decorations and frescos, and it is also home to an interesting
museum of natural history. |

From the village of Calci depart two valleys, with
their small villages and typical restaurants. At the ends of these sparsely
populated settlements are the beginnings of many paths that are ideal
for foot or bike trekking. The paths descend on the other side of the hills toward the villages of the Province of Lucca (Buti), from where you can enjoy the panorama of the lowland and the city of Lucca. Click here for a further selection of local photographs. |
