Vivo d'Orcia lies half way up the Amiata Mountain in southern Tuscany and overlooks the magnificent Orcia Valley. Beautiful woods surround the castle which invite to be discovered. The village is at a distance of 1 km from the house and has a small supermarket, bank, pharmacy, post office, news agent and bar for delicious cappucinos.

First mentioned in the year 1002, the castle is built close to the source of the Vivo river which used to supply the city of Siena with water. In 1534 Cardinal Marcello Cervini, later Pope Marcello II, ancestor of the present owner, bought the estate and modified the castle and the gardens with the help of the legendary architect Antonio di San Gallo.
Montalcino and Montepulciano are graceful hilltowns known for their top-quality wine production. Sant'Antimo and Monte Oliveto Maggiore are two monasteries which will enchant you. Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Bagno Vignoni (hot sulphur springs) are also at a close distance.

Florence and Rome can be reached in 2 hours, Arezzo, Orvieto, Perugia and Assisi are easy day trips. The seaside near Grosseto is within one hours drive.
