If you come you will fall in love with this beautiful region and its lovely people. Puglia has it all: splendid beaches, marvellous architecture, beautiful countryside and some of the finest food and wine in Italy. Puglia enjoys a warm climate all year round. There are the famous trulli. Many trulli have since been beautifully restored and made into luxury homes. [ local map | map of region ]A holiday in Puglia would not be complete without visiting the city of Lecce, 70kms south of Ostuni and the Salento area.
The so-called “Città Bianca” (White City), Ostuni seems to be made up of light and white and to visit it is an unforgettable experience. You go up towards the historical centre through a succession of narrow, winding streets made of white houses pressed together, painted windows, arches and steps. We suggest you take your time along the lanes and around the craft shops: all of a sudden just around a corner you will behold the wonderful view of the valley down towards the sea. There are music festivals and many typical restaurants and bars where you can listen to live music or savour delicious local dishes, and for the more energetic there are discos along the coast. The cuisine is genuine and flavours from the vegetable garden mix with the aroma of seafood, enhanced by the extraordinary olive oil of this area and accompanied by tasty cheeses, “taralli”, “friselle” and generous, rich wines.
Lecce is renowned for its architecture and
the Baroque churches are stunning. There is also a large amphitheatre. In
the Salento area there is Otranto, which is a small town with a pretty little
harbour. The cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata with its extravagant
mosaic floor and the Aragonese castle are the highlights of the town
and we recommend exploring the town at night when the buildings are
lit up. The restaurants serve delicious seafood and the pasta dishes
are excellent.
Capo d'Otranto is the easternmost point of Italy and on a clear day it is possible to see the Albanian coastline. Further down the coast from the Cape you arrive at the lovely fishing village of Castro. Make sure you try the seafood here but don't expect to be dining with any tourists! The busy port of Gallipoli has a lovely centro storico with a Greek feel. Take time to explore the maze of whitewashed streets, watch the fishermen emptying their nets and you'll find it hard to believe that you are still in Italy! If you are looking for a place where tradition and typical dishes are an essential part of every day life, where beaches are less crowded and nature is still uncontaminated, Puglia is the right place for you!
You are 20km from Brindisi Airport , 70km from Bari Airport, 2km from the railway station of Ostuni, 4km from the sea, 7km from the golf courses, 2km from swimming pools, 300m from tennis, football and basketball facilities. Weekly prices are as follows. The apartments, sleeping up to four, are €700 in August, €450 the rest of the year.
