On the eastern coast of Sardinia, the Hotel San Contonera is in Arbatax - close to some of the most popular beaches in the region and nearby to the town of Tortoli. This modern hotel was constructed in 2003, using state-of-the-art techniques but with a nostalgic nod to the old, dark-red coloured roadhouses of the island ('sa contonera' is Sard dialect for 'roadhouse').
This three-star Sardinian hotel is on the main Viale Arbatax road, near where it divides to the bay at Porto Frailis and the tourist port of Arbatax itself. Rooms here are beautifully painted and finished, soundproofed, air conditioned, and each with their own bathroom (shower and WC), minibar and hairdryer, internet link, safe, radio, minibar and satellite TV. There is a lovely pool around which to soak up the Sardinian sunshine, and a good restaurant serving local specialities.
