Sicily B and B - Sicilian Bed and Breakfast accommodation, Etna

Bed and Breakfast Il Vigneto

Sicily B and B - A holiday with a difference. Bed and breakfast in a picturesque Sicilian village lying between Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea.

This vacation villa enjoys panoramic views from its position facing the central square of Piazza San Alfio. It can host eight people and is a three-star rated Bed & Breakfast.

It is made up of a big living-room, a kitchen, broad terraces with fine views (great for a relaxing breakfast or chatting over a glass of wine), and a vineyard. It is surrounded by a citrus orchard and olive trees, among which you can wander and admire the breathtaking majesty of smouldering Mount Etna.

All the rooms have private bathroom, TV and heating. A buffet breakfast includes tea, coffee, milk, yogurt, cereals, and typical local products, such as jams, honey and home-made cakes. There is ample parking. Double rooms are EURO €50 per night, rising to €53 during the Christmas period and €55 during the summer (15 June to 9 September); breakfast is of course included.

In a few minutes, you can get both to the seaside and the coastal villages of Aci Trezza, Aci Castello and Naxos, and to little mountain villages such as Nicolosi and Zafferana. Nicolosi has an ice rink, Zafferana is well-known for its Ottobrata, a festival occurring every Sunday in October, during which local typical products are exhibited and sold. In Trecastagni, on May 10th, there is the feast of the patron saint.

And you can easily reach the most famous spots in eastern Sicily, such as Taormina, Acireale, Catania, Etna, Siracusa and Noto, while enjoying the peace and quiet of an unspoiled Sicilian village.

Taormina has become a very popular resort in recent years, a chic town with good restaurants, bars and shops, spectacularly dominating the two bays sweeping beneath, and with the remarkable remains of its Classical Greco-Roman open-air theatre. In the background, mighty Etna looms ominously ... this is a beautiful and utterly unique spot on the island.

Catania, Sicily’s second-largest city, and continuously inhabited since at least the eighth century BC, was once a major centre of Magna Graecia in Classical times. Over the centuries it has fallen victim time and again to the eruptions of Mount Etna, lava swamping the town and the bay in 1669. The city has good churches and museums, the Classical Teatro Romano, lovely squares and lanes to explore, and good restaurants and bars: the fresh fish here is some of the best in Italy. It’s also worth exploring the lively and noisy open-air market – great for picking up local produce. A trip up Mount Etna is also a must while you’re here.

And check out the fascinating old city of Siracusa (once Syracuse and the capital of Greater Greece). The old Greek capital occupied the fortified island of Ortygia (really a peninsula pushing out from the city into the Mediterranean). The cathedral here is based around the Temple of Athena, raised in the fifth century BC, and in continuous use as a place of worship ever since. Remarkably, you’ll see parts of the temple wall, two and a half millennia old, still standing within the ‘modern’ walls of the Duomo.
