Sicily - self catering holiday apartment rentals

La Casa di Pippinitto

Sicily - self catering holiday apartment rentals - On the eastern coast, near Catania, a selection of vacation apartments and rooms. Superbly situated for trips to Mount Etna, Taormina and into Catania.

There are apartments nicely reconstructed from the dependence (outbuilding) of an old masseria (farm). There are also two rooms with independent access from the yard.

The apartment consists of two little double rooms and a large living room (with a sofa bed), well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower. The apartment has a pretty private terrace with panoramic views as well as table and chairs.

The individual rooms have been recently remodelled, and are large, very light and bright and with panoramic views. Every room has a private bathroom and you have the use of an equipped kitchen. The furniture of the rooms is typical Sicilian: Pippinitto offers you a traditional, simple atmosphere. Pets are welcome.

And Pippinitto has a terrific strategic position. Immersed in the greenery of the fruit trees, it can yet be easily reached from the highway (in just five minutes); you can reach the sea in 10 minutes and reach the starting point for excursions to Mount Etna in 20.

You can also swiftly reach the most interesting historic and sightseeing spots on the island. Catania, Sicily’s second city and constructed from volcanic rock (of course) is just 18km away. This is an ancient town, first settled by the Greeks as early as 729BC (this eastern coast was later to become the centre of Magna Graecia). The city was swamped by lava from Etna’s eruption in 1699, and it was razed by the earthquake of 1793. Rebuilt on a grand scale by Giovanni Vaccarini, Catania is today a fascinating mix of the Baroque and earlier Classical relics.

You can head 7km to the coastal resort of Acireale (home of Sicily’s oldest carnival) or travel the 30km to Taormina. High upon Monte Tauro, Taormina is Sicily’s most famous and most chic resort, dominating the two bays sweeping below. With Mount Etna as a dramatic backdrop, this extraordinary place, with the remains of its Classical theatre, has enraptured generations of visitors, including DH Lawrence and Goethe.
