And you'll enjoy exploring the Mediterranean's largest island. There is an enormous amount to see and experience here. Although part of Italy, Sicily bears traces of all the invading cultures that have colonised the island over the centuries. Romans, Arabs, Bourbons, Normans, French and Spanish have all come and gone, leaving temples, theatres and churches scattered across the island.

There is Mount Etna of course with the smoking volcano dominating its blackened lunar landscape, and the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento. See the Byzantine Mosaics of the Cappella Palatina in Palermo, or catch a performance in Siracusa's Teatro Greco. And the Baroque marvel of the town of Noto is not to be missed.

The island has a marvellous cuisine, hotter and spicier than on mainland Italy. Sicily is famed for its sweets, including cannoli stuffed with ricotta and wrapped in chocolate and the rich cassata ice cream. Street food is everywhere, with fritters, pizzas and potato croquettes on offer from corner vendors. And good wines include the fortified Marsala and Corvo red and white.

This extraordinary island, with its rich mix of cultures is an exciting venue for your Italian holiday. To find out more click below.
