This villa in Sicily is a centuries-old building in countryside near Modica – set right in the heart of Baroque Sicily.

It’s a great setting. Nearby there are several important towns of art such as Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Siracusa and Caltagirone. An unmade path crosses the property and leads to the masseria (ancient farm) set on a hilltop and in a dominating position enjoying the enchanting countryside landscape of Modica. This is characterised by corn fields, carob trees, dry stone walls and by the blue sea of Vendicari in the background.

The building represents a typical architectural pattern of local culture and tradition, brought back to its original charm by a careful restoration, which was recently completed. The exclusive country residence is made up of a main block, a 300-metre dwelling, and its adjacent tower used as a dependence, now and then inhabited by the owners. The baglio (internal courtyard), paved with basole (pieces of local stone) and equipped with elegant garden furniture, is particularly nice and has a private small swimming pool (7 x 3.5 metres, open from 31st March to 27th October). Guests can also enjoy a big swimming pool with hydromassage (15 x 8 metres, open from 28th April to 29th September), now and then used by the owner.

All around the villa extends a well-maintained garden with centuries-old olive trees, almond trees, citrus orchard, jasmine and bougainvillea and other plants peculiar to this area.

The insides of the house still keep the traditional wooden beam ceilings and have been elegantly furnished with rustic furniture. The characteristic kitchen in brickwork has been decorated with majolica pottery of Caltagirone and has an oven and a fireplace/barbecue. The big living room with loft (140 square metres) and big central fireplace extends between the baglio and the garden. The bedrooms, spacious and cosy at the same time, have wrought-iron beds and coordinated fabrics. Private parking. Pets not allowed. Autonomous heating and air conditioning (extra price).

The villa totals 300 square metres, sleeping 7+2. There is a baby cot and high chair for babies on request. Water, electricity and gas, plus final cleaning, are included. There is three hours cleaning and tidying on Saturday provided. Damages deposit is EURO €500. Central heating, if required, is €25 per day, air conditioning (two rooms only) €15. Linen and towels are included. Household appliances include washing machine, dishwasher, freezer, electric oven, 42-inch plasma TV, American coffee machine.
