Sicily is a beautiful, unchanging and ancient land, where antiquity and the present live comfortably side by side. So where better to enjoy this fascinating island than in one of the holiday guest rooms in the centuries old farmhouse of Baglio Spano.

The house dates back to the 18th century when it was the summer home of the Montalto-Spano family. Situated among 300,000 square metres of vineyards, and only 2 km from the beach, an old farm road runs direct to the house. The ancient doorway gives onto the courtyard, separating the guestrooms of the farmhouse from the warehouses which were once used to store the grapes and produce wine.

The old cellar has been remodelled into a warm and comfortable restaurant, with views of both the courtyard and the citrus trees. The atmosphere here is marvellous, as you taste and enjoy typical Sicilian dishes prepared by the house’s own cooks. The guest rooms meanwhile are on the second floor, where you will also find a spacious sitting room for peace, quiet and relaxation. With the building entirely surrounded by citrus trees releasing their delicate perfumes into the temperate evening, relaxing is that much easier.

The veranda, rebuilt in the traditional Sicilian style, with wooden beams and clay tiles, is the perfect place to relax on hot summer afternoons. Furnished with a large wooden table, bench seats and terracotta pots, it makes a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the locally made wine. The farmhouse is in the heart of the Marsala winemaking region, and you’ll be able to try the local vintage here.

On the first floor there is a spacious liberty-style dining room which is used as a library and TV room. You can sit on the sofa and enjoy the lovely views of the orange groves and vineyard and, a few hundreds metres away, the seaside.

The bedrooms are positioned around the library, in typical Sicilian architectural style. Furnished with beautiful late nineteenth century furniture, they are immaculately restored and boast magnificent hand decorated floors.

Each of the guest rooms is named after a Sicilian wine producing grape, Grilla, Inzolia and Grecanico being the most important varieties in Marsala production.
Inzolia Mare on the first floor (21 sqm) is a double room with a sea view. An additional bed may be requested at a cost of Euro 20 per day.
