Hotel / bed and breakast holiday lodging in the mountains north of Lake Garda. Hotel Garni La Felce.

Lovers of golf should check out the new nine-hole course just 4km from here. There is some of the most famous paragliding in Europe: unforgettable flights can end with you landing right next to the hotel! In winter a circuit is illuminated for practising Nordic skiing. Fifty metres from the hotel, each summer, there are two beaten earth tennis courts, and there are cycling and horse-riding tracks.

And the landscape here, dominated by the towering Dolomites, is some of the most dramatic and beautiful in Italy. Snow-capped mountains surround vineyards, criss-crossed by hiking trails and rivers. And the Dolomiti di Brenta, with their jagged peaks, are even more striking than the rest of the range, punctuated with deep wooded valleys, the frescoed churches of the Valle Rendena and little fairytale castles.

Trentino-Alto Adige is actually two regions, with the northern Alto Adige formerly part of Austria (South Tyrol) and being much more German in character. The Trentino area around Pinzino is far more Italian in flavour, and is excellent for wine lovers. Vines are strung on broad pergolas, the way wine has been grown here since Roman times.

There are more DOC wines from the region than any other in Italy, with the cool, high vineyards producing bright, fruity wines such as the Chardonnays and Pinot Grigio. There are also good sparkling wines, which you’ll see sold as Trentino Classico spumante, and there are fine reds too, such as Teroldego and Schiava.

The food has a distinctly German flavour (and much more so as you head north into Alto Adige). Typical items on your menu might be salami, speck dumplings, game and rabbit with polenta, and desserts based on plums, pears or apples from the many local orchards.

There is so much to recommend this northerly quarter of Italy. From winter sports with a stylish Italian twist, to fine walking and sightseeing, or simply enjoying the marvellous food, wine and hospitality in this comfortable and affluent Alpine region, there’s something for everyone.
