The 14m, solar heated, chlorine free swimming pool has superb views across the Valle di Chio while this perfect location provides sunshine throughout the day. Here you can relax, swim, read a book, take a light lunch or simply soak in the sunshine and the panoramic views. On balmy summer evenings the pool area and the pool itself are lit.

On request, a supply of gluten free bread and diabetic products is available with your breakfast.

Unfortunately no pets are allowed. Convenient parking spaces are always available. Cars can be temporarily stationed outside the rooms while you load and unload luggage. All areas are well lit at night for our guests comfort, safety and security.

Throughout the high season (1 June - 30 September) there is usually a table d’hote 5-course evening meal of regional dishes prepared daily by Marcello using the freshest local produce, some of which is likely to have been grown at Casa Portagioia.

Off-season, there is dinner as and when required but always to the same high standard. Usually, for smaller numbers, you will use the private dining room where a wood-burning stove will ensure your comfort. The keynote is food of a very high standard in an informal atmosphere. You’ll enjoy this either on the delightful terrace overlooking the olive grove or in the pleasant and relaxing dining room. Dinner service commences at 8pm and ends when it ends! Guests are free to invite non-resident friends to dinner provided a little notice is given.

The menu varies daily and has a distinctive Tuscan influence - this is Italian food at its most interesting and innovative, often quite unlike that found in other regions of Italy, filled with new flavours and an intriguing juxtaposition of textures and ingredients. Crostini, ravioli, affoggato tomatoes, monkfish, Tuscan ham, porcini, brule soup, swordfish, affogato tricolour ... this gives you just a taste of what is on offer.

If you are intending to arrive on a Saturday afternoon and wish to take the evening meal after your arrival please let your hosts know. The price of dinner will vary according to availability of local produce and the nature of the menu. Usually dinner is around €35 plus drinks. There is a selection of wines, some of which are produced in local vineyards.
