Casa Portagioia is an ideal location for small to medium sized groups. The location, whether in summer, autumn, winter or springtime, is always breathtakingly beautiful, secluded and tranquil. And it lies within easy reach of some quite fascinating and historic places while also being very comfortably self-contained.

The seclusion does mean you’ll need your own transport, with Casa Portagioia nestling in a secluded 3 acres of the Valle Di Chio. Your hosts have therefore negotiated favourable arrangements with local coach/hire companies at the nearest airports, such as Florence (50 miles), Pisa (95 miles), Bologna (135 miles) or Forli (100 miles). Further arrangements can be made for trips and excursions as and when required. Tailored inventories can even be created for your group.

Groups of 12 or more can expect to attract significant reductions off season; there is a non-refundable deposit of 30 per cent to confirm a group booking. There is private parking for guests, and you can check your email or use the internet if required.

Mobile phones work well around Pieve Di Chio; bicycles can be hired for €6 per day; there is a professional hair stylist on site; laundry and full drying are available for a charge of €14; ironing is available on request, as are bags of ice. All bedrooms are non-smoking.

We also offer short stay accommodation (minimum 2 nights), at €115 (off-peak) and €135 (high season) per day, including breakfast.

There are lovely walks nearby. The nearest shop is 15 minutes walk away, and the nearest supermarket 6.5km. The nearest train station is Castiglion Fiorentino (roughly 6km). A trip into Castiglion Fiorentino makes a lovely day out. The tower of the ancient castle dominates this lovely old town, which has beautiful medieval walls, churches, art treasures and Renaissance buildings. Castiglion also has many festivals throughout the year including the famous Palio dei Rioni (a horse race around the town – similar to the festival in Siena). This includes a colourful and energetic display of flag-waving and dates back to the 13th century.

Nearby Cortona, with its Etruscan origins, is rich in art and history. The prevailing architecture is mediaeval, and the steep narrow streets cling to the hillside giving panoramic views of the whole of the Valdichiana.
