Monterchi is a picturesque Tuscan hilltop village east of Arezzo, near the Umbrian border. And Il Palazzetto is an old palace built right into the fortified walls of the main village square.
The gardens and pool of this fascinating property sit atop the ramparts of the old village. From here there are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. The thick castle walls, meanwhile, provide both a cool environment and perfect privacy ... you won’t need air conditioning here.

The main house sleeps eight guests, and a further 10 can be accommodated — four at the Duettino annex, and 4+2 in I Merli, an independent house with its own garden. The gardens of Il Palazzetto and I Merli are linked by a connecting gate. Dependent on availability it may be possible to rent a single or multiple combinations of the three houses.
These Tuscany home rentals make for the ideal combination: in the heart of village but totally secluded by the thick walls of the castle. This is ideal for those who want to experience what life would have been like in the Tuscany of centuries past, and in an atmosphere of tranquillity, comfort and refinement.
You access the grounds from the first floor. These include a garden with furniture and a pool (this including a Jacuzzi corner, a barbecue, a gazebo, and a dozen of the owner’s pet turtles). We would advise families that there is a steep drop to the street from here. Though the property has been restored, part of its charm lies in its sloping floors and cracks — these blend with lovely antiques and comfortable furnishings to evoke the old Tuscany.
Each bedroom has its own bath, and all but one has window screens. Il Palazetto is non smoking and unsuitable for children of eight years and below.
Sleeping eight, the main house is laid out as follows. The ground floor has an entrance hall, living room, sitting area, a master bedroom with queen-size bed, and an en-suite bathroom with shower. There is a further bedroom with two single, joinable beds and an en-suite bathroom with shower.
