Marvellous Cortona apartment rentals - this farm is situated in Val di Piele, a small valley next to Lake Trasimeno, between Tuscany and Umbria. Here you can enjoy central Italy at its most beautiful, and you're within easy reach of historic cities such as Cortona, Assisi, Florence and Siena.
The Pilari apartments are in an ancient hamlet in the heart of the farmland: its origins are lost in the past. The oldest part of the village was built as a watch tower for Pierle Castle around the 13th century. This castle was a very important fortress for the Pierle Valley and now has huge historic importance. The watch tower's foundation was hewn from the rock and you can still see the chisel marks in the wall of the cellar. Over time, the tower became a farm house and the owner added other rooms. The last part was built in the 1922 and it is the home of the owners, your hosts.
Your accommodation is at the rear of the village and years ago was the house of the final farm worker. This apartment is called Castagnolo as this was the nickname of that worker. The other two apartments are Stalla (once a stable) and Tabaccaia (a big oven for drying tobacco leaves). In the gardens surrounding the apartments is the swimming pool (12x6 metres and 1.5 metres deep) with jacuzzi.
Stalla has a sitting room with corner kitchen, a double bedroom, bathroom with shower and a big veranda. In the kitchen there is a gas stove with four-ring hob, electric oven and fridge with freezer.
Castagnolo is divided as two flats. In the first is a sitting room, kitchen, double bedroom with bathroom, another bathroom and a terrace. The second floor has the other double bedroom, plus a kitchen with a gas stove with four-ring hob, electric oven and fridge with freezer.
Tabaccaia is divided as two flats. The ground floor has a sitting room with corner kitchen and a big veranda. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower, plus a kitchen with a gas stove with four-ring hob, electric oven and fridge with freezer. Each apartment has independent entrance and heating and there is a laundry room with a washing machine. In the verandas and on the terrace there are tables with chairs and some sunchairs.
In the village of Mercatale di Cortona, a kilometre away, you'll find two banks with cash machine, two supermarkets, three bars, a pharmacy, a post office, restaurant and other services.
