Tuscany villas to rent - Spacious holiday accommodation for up to 10 guests, this villa rental lies in the Mugello hills north-east of Florence.
This house has been in the same family for generations. A stone in one of the walls has the year 1858 carved into it, but it could be older still. Certainly, from the beginning of the 20th century, the house was used as both a hayloft and a wine cellar. The harvested grapes were here thrown into a huge vat and trodden by local women - one of the most typical and enjoyable scenes of Tuscan peasant life.

Then, in the year 2000, the owners decided to restructure the house, remaining as faithful as possible to the style of old rural Tuscan homes and outbuildings. As guardians and restorers of this house, they have got to know the villa intimately. The stones of the building were hand-cut from the famous quarry at Poggio Colla. This quarry was active until around 60 years ago and is part of the Etruscan acropolis that has formed an archaeological field study since 1995. Meanwhile, the beams, doors and window frames are of chestnut, worked by one of the few remaining craftsmen of the neighbourhood and hand-treated with beeswax.
The house comprises seven rooms. These include four bedrooms, a duplex, your own kitchen, living room, dining room, four bathrooms, four separate toilets and a veranda. The house covers 170 square metres, with a 2000 square metre garden.
There are two double beds, four single beds and a sofa bed.
The house has a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, telephone, cable and satellite
TV, stove and oven, shower, barbecue, baby cot and high chair, children's
playground, courtyard, outdoor furniture, heating and fireplace. Linen is
included and there is private parking.
Additional services available include extra linen, a cleaning service, babysitter, bikes to rent out, a reception desk, and email reception. Nearby you'll find fishing, golf, tennis, sailing, windsurfing, archery, canoeing and a host of historical sites. Pets are not allowed and you are advised to bring your own means of transport.
With views onto the lake, vineyards within 150 metres, and a commanding position 300 metres above sea level, the house is superbly situated. There are shops within 2km, a restaurant just over 1km away, and the village centre lies 2.5km distant. The nearest hospital is 10km away, and the Renaissance city of Florence is just 30km away.
