La Fornella is located in eastern Tuscany, just 18 kilometres from the city of Florence [local map | map of Tuscany]. Built in the early middle ages as a dwelling for the Vallombrosa monks who farmed here, it was greatly expanded during the Renaissance when the Vallombrosa Order reached the height of its wealth and power.

Each apartment has a beautiful north/south view over the 25 acre estate of olive groves and vines. The rooms have excellent natural light and have been decorated and furnished with impeccable taste.
