Chianti vacation apartments - Accommodation for rent in the countryside of Florence, Tuscany

All apartments have their own kitchen and bathroom and sleep between two and four guests. Prices range between €517 and €930 per week, depending on season and number of guests. There is a restaurant nearby, at Aia dei Canti. All major credit cards are accepted, and pet dogs are allowed.

These Tuscan holiday flats share a very nice outdoor swimming pool, and there are mountain bikes available and parking for guests. There are golf courses nearby at Siena and at Grassina (15km away).

The nearby town of Greve is a big attraction. There is a regular Saturday market, there are good shops, and it is a magnet for wine lovers. Greve is the home of Chianti's biggest wine fair (held in September), but whichever time of year you visit you'll find wine merchants on every street in the town.

And then of course there is the countryside of Chianti itself. This area, stretching down from Florence to Siena, is what the visitor imagines when they dream of Tuscany. A long stretch of hill towns and vineyards, bathed in sunshine and superb light during the summer, and mild even in the depths of winter, and with many hundreds of acres of woodland complementing the intensively farmed vineyards and fields.

At the very heart of the Chianti region, Siena rewards a day (or days) of exploration. It has a fine 12th century Gothic and Romanesque Cathedral built in stunning black and white marble, and one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1240. Its Campo is a unique mediaeval square at the heart of the city - quite possibly the most complete Gothic piazza in Italy. And Siena is probably most famous for its Palio, the bare-backed horse-race which take place every year in July and August around the huge Campo, and dating back to the 14th century. You'll find marvellous restaurants, cafes, bars and shops here.

Or head north to Florence. The home of Michelangelo, Botticelli and the Medici, of the Ponte Vecchio and the Neptune Fountain; the birthplace of modern art, sculpture and commerce, and the centre of the Renaissance, Florence is a holiday in itself.
