Poggio al Sole, named for the generous amount of sun it enjoys year round, looks over the gentle Mugnone valley amidst the magnificent setting of the Florentine hills. At a height of 450m and only a few kilometres from Fiesole and Florence, it is surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees and orchards.

This small family-run farm and bed and breakfast is perfectly situated to enjoy exploring the art towns of Tuscany, and offers a welcoming and tranquil haven where you can sample typical produce and Tuscan cooking. Wine tours can be organised on request along the 'Wine roads' of Chianti where you can visit the local wine producers and taste their wares.
The farmhouse and barn have been sympathetically restored to their original rustic style and offer comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. The barn, with its stone facade and featuring wooden beams and terracotta floors in original Tuscan style, has three spacious double rooms named Ginestra, Iris and Gelsomino. The porch, once used for the storage of agricultural tools, is the entrance and common hall and opens onto the valley with its olive groves and fruit trees.
In front of the barn an ancient oak tree shades the threshing floor, and a cool and relaxing space is provided by other trees.
On the first floor of the farmhouse there are a further two large rooms (one of them sleeping 3) called Alba and Tramonto which look out over the valley and the city of Florence. On the ground floor there is the breakfast room with its large fireplace where you can enjoy our delicious and abundant breakfasts.
Poggio al Sole is an organic farm producing mainly extra virgin olive oil and saffron. The fruit grown on the farm (cherries, apricots, pears, figs, plums, sorb apples and walnuts) is used to produce jams and liquors. We have been responsible for the re-introduction of saffron production in the Florentine hills with its subsequent origin controlled status, and take special care in its harvest and drying to give a completely natural product.
The location of Poggio del Sole is ideal not only for its proximity to some of the most important and interesting cultural centres of the region - Florence is only 8 km away, Fiesole even closer - but also for exploring the beautiful countryside on foot or by car.
We also offer various short courses for those wishing to deepen their knowledge of this region's treasures, on the subjects of white truffles for example, or Tuscan olive oil, saffron, or Tuscan cooking and wines. The courses combine theory with practical application and give you the oportunity to learn from experts in a simple and informal environment.
