In Roman times Fiesole was the regional capital of this area, and the early Bishops of Fiesole controlled the surrounding lands almost to the gates of Siena. During the early middle ages Florence besieged the town and broke its power, taking the powerful families to the growing city below. Since that time Fiesole has lived under the shadow of Florence, yet it still has its own unmistakable charm. During the hot summer months up in the hills you can enjoy the cool refreshing breezes that seem to pass by the bustling city below, while surveying the grand view. Le Scalette is only 100m from the centre of Fiesole, perfect for exploring this ancient town. A set of steps leads into the main square - the Piazza Mino. It is easy to find parking and the public transport system is good. Le Scalette is a 19th century villa which has been carefully converted into a grand B&B. All of the rooms are comfortably appointed and the floors are tiled throughout in the local style. Each room comes with satellite TV, telephone, fridge/bar and all are air conditioned to ensure your comfort. En suite bathrooms are standard and are, like the rooms themselves, spacious and bright. Breakfast is included in the price and is served in the lovely dining room, where you will get a chance to meet the other guests before you embark upon your days activities.
