In the very heart of the city, this Florence rental flat sleeps 2+2. Just a stroll from the Ponte Vecchio and the Piazza della Signoria, this is a superb base for exploring this lovely Renaissance city.
This charming first floor apartment has been very nicely restored. Both attractive and comfortable, it is typically Tuscan, with exposed beams and terracotta floors. Lying on the first floor of a centuries old building in the ‘centro storico’ (the historic heart of town), it comprises a living room with kitchen corner, a dining table and pullout sofa bed for 2, a bedroom with king-sized bed, and a bathroom with shower.
And combined with its old-world charm this Florence rental flat has every modern convenience. Heating, air conditioning, two televisions, video recorder, hifi, fridge and small freezer, microwave oven, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, American coffee maker, linens, blankets and towels ... you are fully set up for a comfortable stay in the very heart of Florence. The apartment also has telephone and ADSL (fast internet connection).
If you are coming by car, this Florence rental flat has parking nearby. There is garage parking available in via Ghibellina; this costs around €30 a day.
Best of all, you are in the very centre of this marvellous old city. Florence may have grown considerably over the centuries, but the historically, culturally and architecturally interesting sights are contained within a small area ... the medieval centre of town.
This Florence rental flat is just three minutes walk from Il Duomo, the city’s cathedral. This 13th century marvel was a creation of wounded pride ... the priors who ruled Florence feeling their cathedral compared unfavourably to the new Gothic marvels raised in Pisa and Siena. They commanded that Arnolfo di Cambio build the largest church in the Catholic world, and ‘surpass anything created by the Greeks and Romans at the height of their power’.
Quite a brief, but di Cambio managed it, and the new church of Santa Maria del Fiore arose, crowned by the largest dome ever built – the creation of a goldsmith and watchmaker named Filipo Brunelleschi. A trip up inside the dome is a must, and the views across the red-tiled roofs of Florence are stunning.

There is much more of course. The Duomo is only one element of the Piazza del Duomo, which also has the Campanile (a detached bell tower, also offering superb views) and the Baptistery.
Other unmissable sights in Florence include the Accademia, the gallery that is home to Michelangelo’s David. There are the marvellous frescoes by Uccello, Ghirlandeio and Masaccio at Santa Maria Novella; there are the sculptures of the Bargello and the Uffizi. This last is arguably the world’s finest and most extensive collection of Italian Renaissance paintings.
Florence has architecture to match its art. The Ponte Vecchio, crowded with shops, is an extraordinary slice of Renaissance Florence. Walk across this bridge and you are instantly transported back half a millennium, to when the Medici ruled, and Florence was one of Europe’s great republics.
