Villa della Torre is in a fairytale location, on a large, historic estate, perched on a hilltop amidst a lush green countryside. From the garden you can enjoy stunning views of the gentle rolling hills, vineyards and olive trees leading to the extraordinary mediaeval towers of San Gimignano in the distance. The valley below is of rare beauty.
The old tower dates to around 1000AD; the villa and the adjoining buildings to the mid-18th century. The massive walls, high wood-panelled ceilings, arches, wall friezes and frescoes, stucco and hand-painted ceilings of the rooms enhance the special atmosphere of this ancient house. The villa was until recently the summer retreat of a Florentine family. All the original materials have been preserved or carefully matched with contemporary equivalents. The individual rooms are designed to preserve the elegance of times past and, at the same time, provide the comfort modern guests demand.
Walls in traditional Tuscan pastel shades, terracotta floors, and mirrors with gold-painted baroque frames create a charming atmosphere resonating with history and culture. The estate guarantees privacy: altogether the apartments occupy an area of 900 m2, each with its own outdoor area, either in the large garden, under the old holm oaks, on a terrace or in a small inner courtyard at the rear of the villa. These lovely outdoor spots are separated from each other, guaranteeing peace and privacy.
The beautiful classical Tuscan garden, with hand-carved stone balusters, is laid out on the south side of the villa. Rosemary and lavender bushes line the path to the large and elegant pool, spectacularly located on a plateau of English lawn and sitting high above the valley. While swimming, you can savour an enchanting view of one of the most beautiful valleys in Chianti. To add to your pleasure, the park and the pool are romantically lit in the evening.
Villa della Torre is a good starting point for exploring Tuscany. In the heart of Chianti, it is a short drive to Florence and Siena, and an hour's drive takes you to the sea. A family-owned Tuscan restaurant, a small alimentari (corner shop) and one of the oldest churches of the region are within walking distance. And around the villa are a variety of small trattorias and restaurants ... each night you can dine in a new place and your hosts will provide you with tips for this area. The village, with some smaller stores is 2km away, and a large supermarket in Certaldo 7km away. Villa della Torre farms the neighbouring fields, and you can stroll through the olive groves and vineyards surrounding the villa; then taste the excellent Chianti, olive oil and grappa produced by the farm.
