Holiday apartment Castello lies in the medieval village of Montemerano, near to the popular thermal resort of Saturnia in the south of Tuscany. With its spas and springs this has long been a destination for those seeking to rest, relax and recharge their batteries. The property covers some 60m² and looks onto one of Tuscany’s most charming old squares, the Piazza del Castello.
This Tuscan holiday home beautifully evokes old Italy. It has a bathroom of travertine marble, old terracotta tiles, and frescoed ceilings. Complementing the old are modern comforts ... you have a colour television and a private telephone line.
The main door to the flat comes right off the central piazza, and two steps take you into the kitchen-living room, which is made warm and welcoming by the open brick fireplace. The kitchen is small but fully equipped. The ground floor also has a small WC.
On the first floor are two double bedrooms of a very good size. One has a view over the Piazza del Castello, the other looks out open an attractive walled garden. Both of the bedrooms have floors of old terracotta tiling underfoot, and one of them boasts a splendid frescoed ceiling. The marbled bathroom, with shower, is placed between the two bedrooms.
Wander out of your front door and, just 50 metres away, you can dine at one of the best restaurants in Tuscany (you’ll find it name-checked in many tourist guides). Walk 50 metres further and you’ll find the public parking spot. Little Tuscan villages often have no access to cars (no bad thing), but if you have heavy bags, you can use the little Ape-Taxi, which is free of charge for apartment guests.
And there’s plenty to see within an easy drive of the apartment. Saturnia is 5km away, Lake Bolsena 40km, the lovely sea and beaches of Argentario 50km, Capalbio 30km and the town of Grosseto 40km.
