Italy Farm Holidays - These holiday apartments on a working olive oil farm in the beautiful countryside of south-western Tuscany are excellent for a peaceful family holiday in Italy. And they lie within easy reach of Tuscany's many attractions.
Civettaio is a typical farm of the Maremma region. The old house dates back to 1700AD - forming a quadrangle alongside the hayloft and stable annex, it stands on a hillock dominating the landscape. The owners have revived traditional farming methods, combining them with modern organic practices to bring this Maremma farm back to life.
The olive grove has been rescued from years of abandonment, and this year the production finally reached the desired quality. The olives are picked by hand and cold pressed, giving an oil both bitter and spicy, with the scent of olives and fruit. You'll be able to taste the oil while you're here, it's ideal for bruschetta, and excellent on roasts, braised beef and in meat sauces.
And in September 2003 the vineyard (planted in 2000) produced its first crop; a vintage of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon will be the fruit of that. Meanwhile, Cinta Senese wild boar breed untamed in the forest, roaming wild around what will become a fully working organic agriturismo.
Rooms can be booked either individually or as complete apartments. Prices for all rooms and apartments include water consumption, gas, lighting, bath, bed linen (changed weekly) and final cleaning. The swimming pool and mountain bikes are available to guests.
Rentals are on a weekly basis, from Saturday to Saturday with arrivals between 4pm and 8pm. If you must check in at another time, please give as much notice as possible. Checkout is by 10am. Upon arrival, you will be asked for a damage deposit of EURO €260, refundable upon your departure. In low season or subject to availability it may be possible to reserve rooms for different periods during the week. The cost for a double room with bath and breakfast is €80 per person per night, €45 for a double roome single use; for an apartment it is €50 per person per night.
