San Leonardo is not just one apartment or apartment complex; rather it is a collection of holiday accommodation around the famous Saturnia sulphur spas. We have San Leonardo itself, a collection of four apartments only 150m from the spa, apartments within the village of Saturnia and a selection of accommodation 1.5km from the village.
Hidden from the hectic hustle and bustle of the main tourist centres further north, the region of Maremma where San Leonardo is placed is a tranquil gem in the Tuscan countryside. The land rolls down to the Tyrrhenian Sea from the rugged slopes of Monte Amiata, wrapped in its beech and chestnut forests. Lower down the slopes, towns and villages cling to the hillside between olive groves and vineyards. Narrow steep streets and tightly-clustered houses within city walls evoke the feelings of a bygone age.
[ local map | map of region ]The land has been inhabited for millennia and the hills have been mined for copper since the Etruscans; the area is rich in Etruscan sites of interest. There are numerous sites to explore within a half hour drive of the village of Saturnia. The rugged landscape to the north of the region drops down to the sea, giving the region its name; Maremma means a low area close to the sea. The coast offers small fishing villages to explore, beautiful beaches to relax on and the island of Elba only a short boat trip away.

Saturnia is half way between Rome and Pisa, it is about an hour and a half drive in either direction. It is famous for its hot spas which bubble forth from the slopes of Monte Amiata and have been praised for their "miraculous properties" since the time of the Etruscans. The sulphurous waters are an amazing 98.6 degrees (37°c) and the legend states that the spa was formed by the god Saturn.
However, you will not need to seek the permission of Saturn to sample the rejuvenating powers of the waters as tickets are easily available from ourselves, through an agreement with the "Terme di Saturnia".
